A New York City television meteorologist that lost his job after performing on a gay sex website is now fighting in court to find out who leaked screengrabs of his online sexual exploits to his mother and his employer. Erick Adame, who was nominated for an Emmy twice for his coverage of flash flooding in New York City from the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2022 and for team coverage of Tropical Storm Isaias in July 2021, on Spectrum News NY1 in the Big Apple, finds his career in limbo after just losing his job. Adame is now suing Unit 4 Media, Ltd., which operates the Large Penis Support Group at lpsg.com, to reveal the real identify of the leaker(s) that ultimately led to him losing his job.
“I have recently been terminated from my job as the meteorologist at Spectrum News NY1 in NYC. I am taking this opportunity to share my truth rather than let others control the narrative of my life,” Adame wrote in a statement he posted to his verified Instagram account.
“Despite being a public figure and being on television in the biggest market in the country in front of millions of people five days a week for more than a decade and a half, I secretly appeared on an adult cam website,” Adame continued. “On this site, I acted out my compulsive behaviors, while at home, by performing on camera for other men. It was 100% consensual on both of our parts. I wasn’t paid for this, and it was absurd of me to think I could keep this private. Nonetheless, my employer found out and I was suspended and then terminated.”
The Desk, a website that covers media, journalism, and technology, obtained recordings of the meteorologist performing sexual acts, inhaling drugs, and offering strangers to come to his Jersey City apartment to have sex with him and/or urinate on him on the website Chaturbate. In addition to confirming his name, Adame shared his cell phone number and apartment address inviting strangers to come over and have sex with him. At one point in the video, he even writes “Erick Slut Adame NY1” across his body for online viewers.
“Anyone ever have a crush on their weatherman?,” asks Adame in the video. “Oh my God, could you f****** imagine going on f******* Chaturbate and seeing your f******* weatherman shoving d***** in his f****** hole? What would you guys do if you saw your weatherman doing that? See how f****** hard that made me? Yeah, could you f****** imagine your f****** weatherman stretching his hole?”
Soon after, Adame invites strangers over to his apartment for sex. “Please guys, I’m f****** begging you to w**** me out, dude, whatever it takes. I bet you can’t f****** imagine your weatherman saying that.” Moments later, Adame says, “At this point, I’m pretty sure my first name, last name, address has all f****** been out there, and this p**** still hasn’t been f*****.” Despite complaining more than 700 viewers were watching, Adame appears deflated that no one is coming over. “Door’s open, unlocked, ready to take some f****** l***s.
In the video, Adame explains he’s been doing this for a while. “My name is Erick Adame. I’m a nasty, f****** c** s***. I’ve been addicted to being whored out by Internet pimps for about the last decade…and I f****** love it.”
Adame also went on-camera to express interest in his boss as NY1. “I think it’d be hot if my boss saw me. I would love my boss to f*** me on camera.”
Members of the Large Penis Support Group took videos and stills from Adame’s Chaturbate sessions, as well as screengrabs of profiles and images from gay dating apps Grindr and Scruff, and sent copies to Adame’s co-workers and mother. A NY1 co-worker who received the explicit photographs and video forwarded them to Spectrum’s Human Resource division.
While Human Resources investigated the images and video, Adame was suspended with pay. On Friday, NY1 completed their investigation and fired him.
“My psychiatrist calls my actions, ‘compulsive behavior,’ others would call them reckless, stupid, or brazen. I’m not in a position to argue with any of these descriptions,” wrote Adame in his statement.
Adame added, “First and foremost, I unequivocally apologize to my employers at Spectrum, my co-workers, my audience, my family and my friends for any embarrassment or humiliation I have caused you. You expected and deserved better from me.”
“I can’t take it back, and I can’t change what I did, but I am getting the professional help I need so I can make appropriate decisions that don’t affect those I care deeply about, as well as my career, as I move forward in my life. As a public figure I recognize that I have certain responsibilities that come along with the privileges I enjoyed. But let me be clear about something: I don’t apologize for being openly gay or for being sex-positive -those are gifts and I have no shame about them.”
Adame is seeking a court order to force the owner of the Large Penis Support Group to reveal the identity of the person(s)/people who posted his explicit imagery there. If he finds out the real identity of “Sonal Prehonn”, “Tommysize29”, “Funtimes99”, and “Landonboy227”, he plans to sue them. A court hasn’t ruled on whether or not the identities can be revealed; Unit 4 Media has also suggested to other media outlets that they may have no way of tracking down the identity of people that use their service.
In Adame’s complaint, he argues that he “had a reasonable expectation that the images would remain private” and wants to pursue action against those who compiled them and shared them with his co-workers and mother. But because he was in a public online forum promoting his name, home address, telephone number, occupation, and employer name, legal experts aren’t sure what grounds he has to pursue action against people that were merely sharing what was already out in the public domain.
Nevertheless, a variety of people have come to social media to defend Erick Adame and ask Spectrum News NY1 to rehire the meteorologist. “Dear @NY1 – yours is not to judge your employee’s private, consensual sexual activities, but how he reports the weather,” Tweeted Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon who also had an unsuccessful bid for the New York Governor’s race. “This looks and smells a lot like civil rights violation and as an LGBTQ NYer I am particularly troubled by it. Please reinstate Erick Adame now.”
New York State Senator Brad Holyman, a gay man that represents the district of Manhattan, also defended Adame on Twitter. “Erick Adame is the victim of somebody wishing to do him and his family harm. It’s an outrage that @ny1 would fire him for private, consensual conduct and an affront to the #LGBTQ community that he’s not yet been reinstated.”
While NY1 fired Adame for explicit online behavior, another company has offered him a high paying job to work for them. Daryn Parker, VicePresident of CamSoda, offered Adame the role of Meteorologist at the streaming sex platform. “In return for serving as CamSoda’s Meteorologist and providing the news five days a week for one year -clothed, scantily clad, or entirely naked -we’d be willing to pay you a salary of up to $250,000.” In a letter CamSoda shared with the media, they said they want to have the first-ever full-time meteorologist for an adult webcam site.
