The USGS reports that at 8:13pm ET a 5.0 magnitude earthquake was measured about 3 miles west of Sabana Grande de Boya in the Dominican Republic. There are no reports of damage, deaths, or injury yet at this time.

The National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center just issued an update saying there is no threat of tsunami to the US Virgin Islands or Puerto from this strong earthquake. Due to the location and intensity of the earthquake, it is also unlikely that a tsunami threat exists around the US Gulf Coast or the US East Coast from this event.
