Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are impacting northeast today,  prompting the issuance of a Tornado Watch and multiple Tornado Warnings.

The remnant center of what once Hurricane Beryl will continue to track across the Great Lakes before pushing a cold front across the Mid Atlantic into the Mid Atlantic later tonight.

With deep moisture and atmospheric instability available, thunderstorms will continue to blossom across the northeast. The greatest instability is over Pennsylvania and New York, where damaging wind gusts and tornadic cells will develop.

There is also a  concern that any storms that develop will feature  heavy rain due to the very high precipitable water values and deep warm cloud layer. However, the National Weather Service says storm motions should be relatively fast which may limit the flash flood threat somewhat.

Computer forecast guidance expects the cold front to reach into the I-95 corridor, bringing a line of thunderstorms with it. With the loss of daytime heating, the severe threat will begin to diminish by the time these storms arrive, though an isolated severe thunderstorm wind gust cannot be ruled out.

The slow nature of this frontal passage in combination with high atmospheric water content values will be the main driver of flooding concerns as these storms make their way across the I-95 corridor and points east.  The boundary looks to wash out and stall near and around I-95 corridor overnight which could lead to more soaking rains there.
