The National Weather Service (NWS)  is working to resolve a problem that is bringing some pages of their websites down today. Problems first started to crop-up last night: website links were producing errors at at many regional office website pages, leaving people unable to get forecast, advisory, and other information from their local NWS website.

The NWS issued a brief update this morning: “The National Weather Service is experiencing intermittent communications network issues and temporary outages of some web services. We are working on repairs and determining the root cause.” They add, “This is not affecting NWS’ ability to deliver official watches and warnings, which can be accessed and received through NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), the Emergency Alert System, the Emergency Managers Weather Information Network, and NWS social media.”

Popular weather websites, including weatherboy.com, continue to get their feed of advisories from the National Weather Service too.

This latest service outage comes just days after the NWS Chat system went down during a severe weather outbreak in the southeastern U.S.. The web-based instant messaging platform connects meteorologists at National Weather Service Office with emergency and first response professionals, trained weather observers, and the media.  There, operational personnel can share critical warning decision expertise and other types of significant weather information essential to the NWS’s mission of saving lives and property.

The NWS is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
