The ABC Television Network has parted ways with meteorologist Rob Marciano. Published media reports by other outlets claim Marciano was fired due to “anger management issues” and “allegedly inappropriate behaviors.” He became the senior meteorologist for ABC News in 2014.
Marciano is originally from Connecticut. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Cornell University. Since then, he has also held an American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
When ABC News President James Goldston announced Marciano’s arrival in 2014, he said, “A veteran weather anchor and an award-winning journalist, Rob will join GMA Weekend and report on the latest weather headlines throughout the week as well as partner with our talented Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee and the Extreme Weather Team for weather coverage across all ABC News broadcasts and platforms.”
Marciano began his career in journalism as a weather anchor at WVIT-TV in his home state and later went on to work as meteorologist for KPLC-TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Before joining CNN in 2003 as a news and weather anchor, Marciano also was chief meteorologist for KATU-TV and 750 KXL News Radio in Portland, Oregon.
In March, the New York Post’s Page Six reported that Marciano had been banned from the “Good Morning America” studio after making a colleague feel uncomfortable at the studio. While he no longer appeared on-set at Good Morning America, Marciano was still regularly contributing to other ABC News platforms, including “World News Tonight,” following the alleged incident.
ABC News hasn’t provided any comment on Marciano’s employment status.
Marciano was added to the ABC News line-up months after weatherman Sam Champion left the network. In December 2013, Champion left GMA to pursue a new role at the Weather Channel. Champion was immediately replaced by meteorologist Ginger Zee. Nine months later Marciano was hired to join Ginger Zee as the network’s senior meteorologist. Subsequently, in 2016, the Weather Channel parted ways with Sam Champion.
