The last Drought Monitor update shows changing drought conditions around the country; while most of the country is enjoying a lack of a drought with improving soil moisture, the same can’t be said for the portions of Montana and the Dakotas which are dealing with “extreme” drought conditions now.
Heading into the summer season, the southeastern US was suffering with extreme drought conditions. However, recent heavy rain in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida have eliminated the drought there.
The U.S. Drought Monitor is produced through a partnership between the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
