Heavy rain will continue to fall over portions of the Mid Atlantic and Northeast over the next 24-36 hours from the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon. Even before the first drops of rain fall from Major Hurricane Florence, soaking rains of 1-5″ are possible over a broad area of the northeastern U.S.
With grounds saturated from prior rain events, the risk of flooding is high. As such, the National Weather Service has posted flood-related advisories for portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland; more flood advisories are likely as heavy rains continue to fall.
The rain is forecast to end from southwest to northeast later tomorrow. Once the rain from Gordon exits the coast, all eyes will be on Major Hurricane Florence. Florence has the potential to drop rain that’ll be measured by feet in portions of the Mid Atlantic should landfall occur.
