The National Weather Service (NWWS) has been busy investigating storm damage in the Mid Atlantic from a line of severe thunderstorms that moved through the region yesterday. Based on their analysis, they have confirmed that six tornadoes touched-down.

The tornadoes analyzed were given a score on the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale.  It classifies tornadoes based on their wind speeds. EF-0 tornadoes have wind speeds 65 to 85 mph; 1 has winds 86 to 110mph; 2 has winds 111-135mph; 3 has winds 136-165mph; 4 has winds 166-200mph; 5 has winds in excess of 200mph.

After their analysis which included site visits, the NWS declared that an EF0 struck near Leesburg, Virginia, an EF1 struck near Dickerson, Virginia, an EF0 struck near Boyds, Virginia,  an EF1 in Carroll County, Virginia, an EF1 in Monrovia, Maryland, and an EF1 near Elkton, Maryland.  Damage was reported in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, but that was likely the result of straight line wind gusts that came with the thunderstorms.
