While September 10, the traditional peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, was completely free of any tropical cyclones, storms, or hurricanes, the National Hurricane Center is tracking one area in the central Atlantic for potential development.
A tropical wave located near the west coast of Africa is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the far eastern Atlantic. According to the National Hurricane Center, environmental conditions appear conducive for some gradual development of this system over the next several days. They believe a tropical depression could form by the middle part of next week while it moves westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph over the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. However, the odds of tropical cyclone formation aren’t yet great; the National Hurricane Center says there’s only a 40% chance of formation over the next 7 days.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic there are no other storms nor areas of concern nor are any expected over the next 7 days.
