Forecast for NJ’s Jeep Invasion

by Weatherboy Team Meteorologist - June 9, 2017

WeatherboyJeepInvasion400As the official weather forecast provider for the 2017 NJ Jeep Invasion, our forecast focus is on Wildwood, New Jersey for June 16-18.

The days leading up to the large outdoor event for Jeep enthusiasts will feature the triple H’s of summer: hazy, hot, and humid. While summer doesn’t officially arrive until June 21, it will certaintly feel like it’s arrived in the Garden State with highs in the 90’s and heat indexes near and over 100 for some urban areas in the state. The Jersey Shore, Wildwood included, does enjoy somewhat of a break: colder water temperatures and afternoon seabreezes will keep daytime conditions comfortable and evenings cool.

After a prolonged cool and damp weather period that has plagued much of the Mid Atlantic region with an unusually dark spring, the sun will be out in full force beginning this weekend as a Bermuda High Pressure system sets up over the US East Coast. This clockwise flow around this high pressure system will help pump warm, humid air up from the Gulf of Mexico region north into New England in the coming days.

With a weather pattern like this in place, there’s always a risk of very isolated, scattered PM showers and storms that pop-up in the late day heat and humidity. However, such showers and storms will be fairly random and very short-lived; after a quick drop, they fade away or move on. But remember: when thunder roars, head indoors! Lightning can kill, even in non-severe pop-up storms.

Every now and then, a cold front will try to invade the Bermuda High and bring some relief to the sweltering I-95 corridor. At this time, it appears once such front will make a run for the coast on Friday, the first day of the Jeep Invasion. This front will bring clouds and a few hours of showers and storms. As long as the front can successfully clear the coast, which it is forecast to do at this time, fair, dry, and less humid air should push-in behind it.

With the frontal passage expected on Friday, it may be a best bet for Jeepers to arrive topless. Soft-tops and/or Freedom Panels should be handy when those showers/storms arrive. However, with the front expected to pass through the region,  the hard tops, Freedom Panels, and soft tops can come off and drop down for the balance of the Jeep Invasion event.

The New Jersey Jeep Invasion is an annual Jeep-only event held right on the beach in  Wildwood, New Jersey. Hosted right on the beach, in the sand, just a couple hundred feet from the Atlantic Ocean and right next to the iconic 2 mile long Wildwood Boardwalk, with over 300 rides and attractions., the 2017 NJ Jeep Invasion event provides ticket holders with two full days of beach access. In addition to checking-out more than 75 of the industry’s top vendors, guests can take their Jeep through a one-of-a-kind beach obstacle course staffed by Rausch Creek Off-Road Park. While the deadline to buy tickets has passed (June 1), the event is open and free to the public who’d like to walk onto the beach to see the Jeeps, vendors, and ticket holders participating in the activities there; there is no charge to roam the event.

The event also is collecting food for Move for Hunger. Guests that bring in non-perishable food items receive raffle tickets for a big giveaway from event vendors. More details on that charitable endeavor can be seen on the NJ Jeep Invasion website here and on their Facebook wall here.
