While Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast as a Major Hurricane last night, the crisis it is creating continues and will continue to do so for many more days. Analysis from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has shown that more than 10″ of rain already fell over portions of Texas in the time before, during, and after the landfall of Harvey. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 15 to 30 inches and isolated maximum amounts of 40 inches over the middle and upper Texas coast through next Wednesday. During the same time period Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 5 to 15 inches in far south Texas, the Texas Hill Country and southwest and central Louisiana. According to the NHC, “Rainfall of this magnitude will cause catastrophic and life-threatening flooding.”
