While the 2025 Atlantic and Central Pacific Hurricane Seasons begin on June 1, the Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season began on May 15. It is in this Eastern Pacific Basin that the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a disturbance for possible tropical cyclone development.
According to the NHC, an area of low pressure could form by this weekend into early next week several hundred miles south of the southern coast of Mexico.
“Conditions appear favorable for some development of this system thereafter while it moves westward to west-northwestward at around 10 to 15 mph,” wrote the NHC in a Tropical Outlook issued today for the Eastern Pacific basin.
However, chances of formation are quite low for the next few days. According to the NHC, there’s a near-zero chance of tropical cyclone formation over the next 48 hours, which increases to 20% over the next 7 days.
Elsewhere the NHC says they don’t expect any tropical cyclone formation anywhere around the Central Pacific, Eastern Pacific, or Atlantic Hurricane Basins for the next 7 days.
