Monroe Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey is the latest district to see a free BloomSky weather station installed as part of Weatherboy’s Project:STORM endeavor. With Project:STORM, meteorologists from the Weatherboy team visit young people at schools around the region to share their stories about the wonderful world of weather and weather safety.

In a partnership with BloomSky, Weatherboy is installing their weather stations for free at schools in northern, central, and southern New Jersey. (Weatherboy’s parent company is based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.) BloomSky stations capture current conditions –as well as a current view of the sky. Each day, a time lapse movie is created, showcasing the weather that passed through the area that day.

In the case of the Monroe Township High School installation, an area on the western portion of the campus was selected to not only show the sky above, but a glimpse of the area over township’s Municipal Complex.

Members of the Weatherboy and BloomSky teams have been working with these schools to secure the necessary approvals and technical help to have these weather stations operating. Weatherboy worked with school officials to not only secure the appropriate approvals for the install, but also to find the right location on the school property to mount the solar powered device.

Faculty at Monroe Township High School plan to incorporate readings from the device in their STEM curriculum. A meteorologist from the Weatherboy team is also scheduled to visit high school students this spring to discuss meteorology as a career, weather safety, and long range forecast information.

In the Northern Burlington County Regional School District in southern New Jersey, a BloomSky device was also installed at their high school. In addition, more than 100 Weatherboy yardsticks were distributed to elementary school students there to learn about measuring things, including winter time snowfall.

Since Project: STORM’s inception more than 25 years ago, thousands of students, Girl and Boy Scout members, and many other community groups have enjoyed visits by a Weatherboy meteorologist.
