The National Weather Service is warning that more flash flooding is likely across portions of the Mid Atlantic today, with the most elevated threat along the I-95 corridor around and south of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Due to the threat, Flash Flood Watches are up for central and southern New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and portions of Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
In addition to flash flooding rains, severe wind gusts which could create damage are possible this afternoon to early evening from parts of the Carolinas to the Mid-Atlantic.
The airmass across the Mid-Atlantic is very moist, with dewpoints ranging from the upper 60s/low 70s from eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the mid 70s across the eastern Carolinas. Beyond creating a flood threat, this ample low-level moisture will result in quick airmass destabilization amid strong daytime heating. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center warns that “destabilization is already firmly underway” which will lead to thunderstorms with heavy downpours blossoming over the region.
“Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through flood waters,” the National Weather Service warns about today’s flood threat.
