The FAA is warning air travelers and airlines of significant impacts to the New York City airspace tonight due to their staffing struggles.
In a statement released by the FAA, “Due to the availability of staff tonight, the FAA must reduce the flow of aircraft in certain airspace serving New York City to maintain safety. Departure and arrival delays this evening could approach two hours at John F. Kennedy International Airport – JFK, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport – EWR airports.” The FAA warns that passengers should prepare for delays. “Please check with your airline for information about specific flights,” the FAA added.

According to Flight View, less than 30% of Newark’s departures are on-time, with 50% considered “late” and 20% considered “very late.” Roughly 50% of arrivals at Newark are late or very late too. JFK airport is performing even worse, with nearly 90% of departing flights late or very late.  At La Guardia – LGA, 50% of arrival flights are late or very late too.

There are no weather issues around New York City airspace this evening which could compound travel delays if it was present.
