After dumping a considerable amount of snow in portions of the East, the National Weather Service will be dropping Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories later today and tonight from west to east as the storm responsible for the wintry event heads east.

Until they expire or are cancelled, though, the National Weather Service says travel can be tricky in areas dealing with a fresh snow fall or ongoing falling snow.  A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. The National Weather Service advises that if one must travel in the Winter Storm Warning zone, they should keep an extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency. The National Weather Service will issue Winter Weather Advisories when periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. The National Weather Service cautions people in the advisory area to expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities; they recommend that people under the advisory use caution while driving.

As this storm wraps up, attention will turn to the Pacific Ocean where a system that’ll eventually help drive an East Coast storm is being monitored for its influence on the down-stream weather pattern.
