The East Coast isn’t the only place in the country dealing with Old Man Winter not leaving now that Spring is here. The National Weather Service has issued Blizzard Warnings for heavy snow and dangerously high winds –sustained at 80mph with gusts to or over 100mph– for the Big Island of Hawaii. In their warning text, the Honolulu, Hawaii office of the National Weather Service warns, “Blizzard conditions expected. Travel will be very dangerous to impossible… Sustained winds up to 80 mph with gusts up to 100 mph will cause whiteout conditions with zero visibilities in snow, blowing snow and dense fog.” The Blizzard Warning is in effect on the summits of Hawaii through 8am Sunday, Hawaii time.
Hawaii isn’t a stranger to snow, although snow outside of the winter months doesn’t occur as regularly as it does in the winter.
