The long time meteorologist and Chief Meteorologist for KTHV-TV, known as thv11 in Little Rock, Arkansas, has died. Ed Buckner, 59, passed away after a battle with cancer. Prior to his passing, he worked for the Arkansas CBS television station for nearly 25 years, informing his audience about everything from unusual freeze and ice storms to tropical downpours and tornado threats.
According to KTHV, Buckner stepped away from his meteorology work at the station in early 2020 citing complications with Tourette Syndrome. He told a reporter at the station in 2007 that he first noticed symptoms around the age of 13 and wouldn’t be diagnosed until he was in his 30s. Prior to departing the station, he visited classrooms to educate young people about the world of weather while showcasing he didn’t let Tourette’s Syndrome in the way of much of his career.
In remarks about his passing, KTHV said, “He will be remembered by those who got the chance to work with him as a passionate meteorologist. He led his life with kindness and that reflected in the dedication he had to make sure people were safe.”
Buckner was born on June 17, 1965 and grew up in Houston, Texas where he graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1983. From there, he went to school at Stephen F. Austin State University and later earned his meteorology degree at Mississippi State University in Mississippi.
