As it was forecast to do so by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Kristy is weakening in the Eastern Pacific, about half way between Mexico and Hawaii. It is expected to weaken further and dissolve into a post-tropical disturbance later this weekend.
As of the latest advisory from the NHC, Kristy was located at 16.8N 125.8W which is about 1,115 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds, which were up to 160 mph yesterday, are now down to 115 mph. The minimum central pressure is up to 963 mb or 28.44″.
Kristy is moving toward the northwest near 14 mph. According to the NHC, a northwestward to north-northwestward motion at a slightly slower forward speed is expected over the weekend. Steady to rapid weakening is expected during the next few days, with Kristy expected to become a post-tropical cyclone on Sunday. The system will completely dissipate well before any remnants approach Hawaii.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles.
