Ken Graham, the Meteorologist-In-Charge of the National Weather Service New Orleans, has been named as the new director of the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The appointment arrives just a few months ahead of the start of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which starts on June 1.
Graham will begin his new role on April 1.

“Ken has a long history of providing dependable impact-based decision support services in all positions in which he served, and which will greatly serve the nation as he leads the National Hurricane Service,” Louis Uccellini, Director of the National Weather Service said.

Graham fills a void created when the previous director, Dr. Rick Knabb, departed the National Hurricane Center last May to return to the cable network, The Weather Channel. In Knabb’s absence,  Ed Rappaport, who served as the Deputy Director of the NHC for 17 years, served as Acting Director.
