A popular TV weatherman in Texas suddenly died this week. Most recently on Spectrum News 1 in Austin, Texas, Dan Robertston passed away on Wednesday evening.
Robertson was born in Dallas and went to high school in Houston, eventually completing his higher education at the University of Texas at Austin in the 1970s. While he worked in AM/FM radio prior to television, he worked for Lufkin’s KTRE-TV delivering weather forecasts and severe weather information there. He would go on to become a weather anchor and reporter at KXAN-TV in Austin and was most recently hired by Spectrum News 1 to do weather there, a role he’s held for the last 15 years.
Robertson is survived by his wife, Diane, and three sons, Joe, Sam, and Matt.
Robertson’s colleague from Spectrum News 1, John Anthony Salazar, shared the news of his passing on Facebook. He wrote, ” My friend of more than 25 years and Spectrum News colleague the last 15, Dan Robertson, passed away unexpectedly overnight. My news director delivered the tragic news in an internal memo. He and I worked together in three different newsrooms in Austin. And damn, was he a helluva news and weather man. He may be the only person who possesses more cynicism and dry, humorous wit than myself.”
Spectrum News 1 released the following statement to the media: “We are terribly saddened by the sudden passing of Spectrum News 1 meteorologist Dan Robertson. An award-winning meteorologist with the National Weather Association seal, Dan was a beloved member of the Spectrum News 1 weather team for more than 15 years. He brought a distinct perspective to daily forecasts that resonated with viewers and colleagues alike. Dan’s presence and expertise will be deeply missed.”
