Television meteorologist Elliot Wilson was arrested and subsequently fired for being in an altercation with a woman. According to police files, the weatherman from KSAT struck a woman in the face while traveling on a San Antonio highway to a medical appointment. Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the pair got into an argument on the way to her medical appointment; she was taken to a hospital where staff confirmed her nose was broken.
Wilson was taken into custody and charged with a Class A misdemeanor: assault-bodily injury to a family member.
Elliot Wilson, 32, was relatively new to KSAT 12, the top-rated ABC affiliated television station in San Antonio, Texas. Owned by Graham Media Group, the station is a prominent news source for south Texas, providing local news and weather to the communities there.
Wilson joined the station in December, arriving from a Sinclair Broadcast Group television station in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Ball State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Climatology; he also holds a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society, an honor he earned just weeks ago.
At the time of earning the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal, Wilson wrote on Facebook, “This was VERY difficult to get. To earn the CBM, broadcasters must hold a degree in meteorology or equivalent from an accredited college or university, pass a rigorous written examination, and have their on-air work reviewed to assess graphical content, explanation, and presentation skills. This will make me stand out on the air for the rest of my career!”
KSAT previously reported that Wilson would be off-air while the case is under investigation, but the station has since decided to terminate his employment, with a spokesperson for the KSAT saying Wilson “is no longer an employee of KSAT.”
