Want $100 and a Weatherboy prize pack? Just show us your #SafePlaceSelfie!
This week, the National Weather Service is promoting severe weather safety through the #SafePlaceSelfie promotion. Knowing your “safe place” is the most essential preparedness activity to save your life from extreme weather.
As an official Weather Ready Nation Ambassador, the Weatherboy team wants to make sure you’re ready for severe weather before it happens. Snap a picture of yourself in your “safe place”, whether it be at home, work, school, shopping, or elsewhere. Post your safe place picture on our Facebook page at this link here by Friday at 5pm ET (4/7/17) and we’ll randomly pick one person that does to get a $100 gift card and a Weatherboy prize pack.
Make sure you know where to go when severe weather strikes!
On Thursday April 6 from 1p-2p ET, the National Weather Service will be hosting a #SafePlaceSelfie Tweet chat on Twitter. We encourage you to participate in that and share your #SafePlaceSelfie there too!
In our own #SafePlaceSelfie, we demonstrate one possible place to seek shelter when a tornado warning is issued. When a tornado strikes, a safe place in your home could be the bathtub of an interior bathroom on the lowest floor. Covering yourself with pillows, blankets, and even a mattress in a tub before a tornado strikes your home may provide you with some degree of protection.
Good luck! And stay safe this severe weather season!
