Tropical Storm Isaac has formed, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida. Isaac is the 9th named storm of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season which runs from June 1 to November 30. Fortunately, Isaac shouldn’t be a threat to any land as it spins about over the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean.
Tthe center of Tropical Storm Isaac was located near latitude 37.1 North, longitude 54.1 West which is roughly 690 miles east-northeast of Bermuda. Isaac is moving toward the east near 12 mph and a general eastward to east-northeastward motion at a slightly faster speed is anticipated over the next several days.
According to the NHC, recent satellite wind data indicates that maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Isaac could be near hurricane intensity by the end of the week. But by the start of the new week, it is forecast to weaken to a post-tropical cyclone. It isn’t expected to strike any islands like the Azores as it moves across the North Atlantic over the next several days.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 220 miles from the center while the estimated minimum central pressure is 997 mb or 29.44″.
