Face in Hurricane Harvey Eye

A year after some thought they saw a skull depicted in the satellite image of 2016’s Hurricane Matthew, the internet is a buzz with another image: a fresh face in the landfalling image of Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast at 10:00pm CT 4 miles east of Rockport, TX. While RADAR depicted heavy bands of precipitation and strong wind in the eye wall of the major hurricane, RADAR reflected what some are describing as the face of a crying child.

In 2016, when Hurricane Matthew struck eastern Haiti, many said the satellite view at the time appeared to be in the shape of a “skull”, “evil devil man”, or even Harambe, a zoo gorilla that died and became a popular internet meme.

However, just as imaginations are stretched when people gaze at clouds in the sky and see various shapes, there’s nothing scientific about the images portrayed here above/beyond the meteorological facts of the storm they reveal.

Experts believe this Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through to the end of November, will be a busy one.  Dr. Phil Klotzbach and the experts at Colorado State University updated their seasonal outlook again on July 5, showing a much more active than normal season expected. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration  (NOAA) also released their own forecast which shows this hurricane season to be likely more active than others.
