Christmas Snow Expected in Northeast

Those in the Northeast won’t need to dream of a White Christmas; Old Man Winter will be delivering a light to moderate snowfall later Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. Unfortunately for snow lovers further south in and south of the I-95 corridor from New York City to Washington, DC,  snow won’t materialize this Christmas.

Low pressure will bring light snow to portions of the Great Lakes and Northeast regions over the next 24 hours. With a little bit more moisture and energy to work with, snowfall amounts will be somewhat heavier over portions of upstate New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. In the heaviest bands, upwards of 6-8″ will fall; isolated pockets of an inch or two more are possible on highest peaks. Elsewhere, a general 1-3″ light snow will fall.

While some snow flakes are possible as far south as I-287 in New Jersey tomorrow, no accumulating snow is expected for central New Jersey, the New York City metro area, Philadelphia, nor places south/east.

White Christmas isn’t as common as you think; this report breaks down the odds throughout the continental US.
