Bad weather, some potentially severe and life-threatening, is expected to impact portions of the eastern United States today. Low pressure responsible for severe weather overnight along the Gulf Coast is marching north and east; the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center believes today’s bullseye for bad weather will be over central Virginia, central and eastern North Carolina, and eastern South Carolina. While that area has the highest risk for destructive winds and tornadoes, severe weather is possible as far north as northern Pennsylvania and central New Jersey and as far south as southern Florida.
In addition to the severe storm threat, heavy rain is possible too. Heavy rain guidance isn’t looking as bad today as it was yesterday, but some flooding is possible, especially in heavier bursts of rain from thunderstorms. The National Weather Service cautions people to “turn around, don’t drown; never drive through flood waters.”
