
The Atlantic Hurricane Basin is quiet and the National Hurricane Center says they don’t expect any tropical cyclones to develop in it for at least the next 7 days. The Atlantic Hurricane Season wraps up in 4 weeks at the end of the month, although storms have been known to form out of season too.
After killing more than 65 people and injuring dozens, with an incomplete damage toll in the billions of dollars, Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts continue. Melissa was the latest hurricane in an active season.
“The situation on the ground is what can only be described as apocalyptic,” World Food Programme Caribbean director Brian Bogart said at a news conference in Black River, Jamaica, near Melissa’s landfall. “It appears as if a bomb has gone off in that community and people are still in shock.”

According to Dr. Phil Klotzbach who works with a team of scientists at CSU to develop annual forecasts for the Atlantic Hurricane Season, 2025 has been a noteworthy year. “So far, the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season is above normal for major hurricanes/days and Accumulated Cyclone Energy, near-normal for named storms, and slightly below-normal for other metrics,” Klotzbach wrote on X.Â
