While Harvey made landfall as a Major Hurricane on the evening of August 25, 2017, the disaster continues. To serve as a communication vehicle to alert family/friends that people are safe for now, Facebook has activated their Safety Check program for people in Texas.

People in Texas can visit this link and check-off whether or not they’re in the area and safe.

Facebook activated a similar safety check during the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season when Hurricane Matthew impacted the US east coast. 

Numerous flood advisories will be up for Texas as Harvey spins about for the next several days.

Unlike other tropical cyclones, it appears Harvey will stall over Texas for a very long period. Heavy flooding rains should persist through at least Wednesday, creating epic flooding conditions for many.
