Frost conditions are expected tonight in portions of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, prompting the National Weather Service to issue Frost Advisories for those areas.

A Frost Advisory means that frost is expected.  According to the National Weather Service, frost may damage sensitive vegetation; they say that sensitive outdoor plants should be protected and they encourage gardeners and farmers to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

Frost is a deposit of small white ice crystals formed on the ground or other surfaces when the temperature falls below freezing. The presence of frost indicates temperatures could be low enough to bring harm to seasonal vegetation.
