The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida is tracking a new disturbance moving across the central Atlantic Ocean. This tropical wave is the only disturbance anywhere in the entire Atlantic hurricane basin that has a chance to develop into a tropical cyclone over the next 7 days according to the National Hurricane Center’s latest Tropical Outlook.
A tropical wave interacting with a broad area of low pressure is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms about 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. According to the National Hurricane Center, the environmental conditions around this disturbance are marginally conducive for gradual development of this system during the next few days, as it moves westward to west-northwestward around 10 mph.
However, if it doesn’t form over the next few days, development may never occur. According to the National Hurricane Center, environmental conditions are forecast to become unfavorable for further development next week.
For now the National Hurricane Center says there’s only a 20% chance that a tropical cyclone will form here over the next 7 days.
The Atlantic Hurricane Season began on June 1 and runs through to the end of November.
