The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, Florida and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) in Honolulu, Hawaii plan to expand the timing used for the Tropical Outlooks they issue in the upcoming hurricane season. While both theĀ Atlantic and Central Pacific Hurricane Seasons officially begin on June 1, the NHC and CPHC will begin expanding the Tropical Weather Outlook and the Graphical Tropical Weather Outlook out to seven days from the five days it currently is on/around May 15.
The Tropical Weather Outlook discusses significant areas of disturbed weather across the Atlantic, Eastern North Pacific, or Central North Pacific basins and provides separate 2-day (48 hour) and 5-day probabilities of tropical cyclone formation for these disturbances. While the NHC and CPHC won’t change the 2-day formation probabilities, they will now expand the 5-day formation probabilities to 7 days.
The graphical companion to the Tropical Weather Outlook will also see some changes. While the 2-day Graphical Tropical Weather Outlook won’t change, the 5-day version will now be a 7-day version.
