Britany Begley is out of a job as a television meteorologist for NBC affiliate KPRC-TV, also known as “Click 2 Houston”, following a posting she made on Instagram that went viral. Her post, made on June 7, described her dissatisfaction with her job and the industry as a whole.

“Sorry, but I’m tired of coming home to an empty refrigerator. Honestly, I don’t belong here anymore,” Begley posted on Instagram. “…Never won an Emmy because the markets I worked in never thought traffic reporting was worthy of one. After the pandemic, I told myself that when I die, at least I’ll know I stood for something – even if the industry never technically thought I was worthy,” she added. “Only to turn on the TV and watch a team normalize bad behavior: consistently late, not even mic’d up ten minutes before a show, then put it on air as a segment. Where I come from, it’s a write-up, at the very least.”

Begley also wrote on Instagram, “A lot of people inside and outside this industry feel exactly like I do. They’d leave you dead on the side of the road and still ask for a comp day just to sit on standby. Can’t even mic up on time because a lack of discipline.”

The Instagram post received 138 comments and 823 likes, going viral far from Houston. Media outlets in New York City and as far away from Europe carried her story and her post. Apparently, the attention was unwanted by the station and she was let go.

She returned to Instagram this week  with a new post to confirm her separation from the station.  “I’m not disagreeing with the separation,” Begley said in her Instagram post, noting a June 19 article by the New York Post about the situation and detailing her career path from Sacramento to Houston. “I’m not afraid of being disliked for saying what others won’t — especially when living paycheck to paycheck.”

Begley was hired in February 2024 by the Houston station to join their KPRC 2 Storm Tracker team. Before that, she served as a freelance meteorologist for KRON 4 in San Francisco. Before KRON, Begley spent 4 years at KXTV in Sacramento, California, an ABC affiliate where she served as an anchor, meteorologist, and reporter. She attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina and eventually completed her meteorology education through Mississippi State University.
