While some will be experiencing a White Christmas, many will experience a windy Christmas; and some of those winds could be damaging. Low pressure responsible for New England snow is forecast to intensify rapidly off the New England coast on Monday. The system will bring a strong westerly wind to a large part of the eastern United States. Due to the intensity of forecast winds, the National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories for many counties stretching from South Carolina north to Maine.
A Wind Advisory means that very windy conditions are expected. Light weight outdoor objects such as garbage cans, holiday decorations, and patio furniture should be secured. Additional care should be used when driving, especially in and around high-profile vehicles.
The National Weather Service is warning that west winds will rise up to 20-30mph. Some gusts 40-50mph+ are possible in parts of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont. In these heavy wind areas, some tree limbs and utility wires may come down, resulting in localized power outages.
