Ernesto Smashes Bermuda, Destroys North Carolina House

Hurricane Ernesto smashed into Bermuda during the early morning hours, officially making landfall at about 5:30 am local time according to the Bermuda Weather Service.  It took three hours for the eye of the hurricane to completely cross Bermuda. Ernesto is also to blame for the destruction of a house hundreds of miles away on the North Carolina coast.

Based on preliminary statistics shared by the Bermuda Weather Service, the National Museum of Bermuda recorded sustained winds of 89 mph with gusts to 109 mph. The LF Wade International Airport measured sustained  66 mph winds with gusts up to 84 mph. The storm surge at the  Ferry Reach tide gauge: 1.5′ while 6″ of rain was measured across the island.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, a 2-story house collapsed into the ocean as it was smashed by rough surf kicked up by Hurricane Ernesto. The home collapsed at Cape Hatteras National Seashore beach in Rodanthe, the northernmost village of the Outer Banks.
