A strong 6.7 earthquake rocked the central Atlantic Ocean early Thursday morning, but the National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska says there’s no threat of a tsunami to the United States East Coast nor is there a tsunami threat for the Gulf Coast.
In an evaluation released within 15 minutes of the earthquake, the Tsunami Warning Center said, “There is no tsunami danger for the U.S. east coast, the Gulf of
Mexico states, or the eastern coast of Canada. Based on the earthquake location near the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a damaging tsunami is not expected.”
The 6.7 magnitude quake struck at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, according to the USGS.
