The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the western Atlantic for possible signs of development.

According to the National Hurricane Center, an area of low pressure is expected to form several hundred miles south or southwest of Bermuda late this weekend or early next week. Gradual development of this system into a tropical or subtropical cyclone is possible during the early and middle part of next week
while it moves northward or northeastward.  Chances for development are low; under 40% between now and Monday, but that could change as we head deeper into the new week.

The weather pattern should protect the U.S. East Coast from any direct impacts; however, people along the coast and around Bermuda should continue to keep an eye on it.

The 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1, but tropical systems do form early from time to time in May.
