A statement released by New Jersey’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst says, “The forecast is calling for BIG BOOMS!” The booms they’re forecasting are part of the explosions expected as Marines from the Marine Aircraft Group #49 and soldiers from the New Jersey National Guard fire mortars on ranges at the base as part of the Combined Arms Training Exercises (CATE) happening this week.

The effort begins on Thursday, June 14. During cloudy or overcast conditions, atmospheric acoustics can amplify the noise and cause it to travel further. With high pressure forecast to be in place, the noise from the exploding ordinance shouldn’t travel too far from the base. Throughout the military exercise, mostly sunny conditions are expected with warm daytime temperatures and comfortably cool  readings at night.
