No Tsunami Threat from Caribbean Quake

wbseismoThe National Weather Service’s US Tsunami Warning System says there’s no expected tsunami along the US East Coast, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands from an earthquake that just struck the Caribbean. According to the service, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 occurred about 43 miles west of Isla Mona at 7:53am AT on Sunday, September 3.




“Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat to Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, or the British Virgin Islands from this earthquake, ” the agency said. But they added, “People may have experienced shaking from the earthquake.”
The 4.1 quake struck at a depth of about 92 miles; it was centered at 18.1 North 68.6 West.
