Strong Quake Rocks Russia, No Tsunami Threat to U.S.

A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Komandorskiye Ostrova, Russia, just west of Alaska, this morning. There are no reports of damages or injuries at this time in Russia.

The National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, released several updates a short time ago, each dismissing any threat to the United States. According to these updates, based on all the analysis they’ve done of this quake, there is no tsunami threat to Guam, Saipan or the Northern Marianas, Hawaii, Alaska, or to the U.S. West Coast.
