According to the National Hurricane Center’s latest Tropical Outlook, is it likely that a tropical cyclone will form in the Atlantic in the coming days. The area of concern is over the central Atlantic and far from land; it isn’t clear whether or not this system will ever impact the U.S. or any landmass.

A broad area of low pressure associated with a low-latitude tropical wave continues to produce a large area of disorganized cloudiness and showers several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. According to the National Hurricane Center, environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form by midweek as it moves quickly across the central tropical Atlantic, approaching the Leeward Islands by the latter part of this week.

“Interests there should monitor the progress of this system,” cautions the National Hurricane Center.

While the U.S. Government remains shut down, the National Hurricane Center staff continue to work and continue to share potentially life-saving information about the tropics with the public and partners.

The National Hurricane Center says there’s a 50% chance of tropical cyclone formation here over the next 48 hours and increases those odds to 70% for the next 7 days.

Elsewhere throughout the Atlantic Hurricane Basin, which includes the Gulf of America, things are quiet and the National Hurricane Center expects no other tropical cyclone formation anywhere else for the next 7 days.

The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season continues through to the end of November.
