Earthquake Strikes New Jersey, NYC Metro

Many people around the New Jersey / New York metro area had a rude awakening in the middle of the night as an earthquake rattled the region. According to USGS, the 3.1 magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was near Freehold in Monmouth County New Jersey.

Due to the intensity of the earthquake, no tsunami is expected around the New York City metro area, the Jersey Shore, or the South Shore of Long Island.

Seismographs measured the earthquakes that struck around the world today.

The earthquake struck at exactly 2am and was felt throughout central and northern New Jersey and the New York City area. According to USGS, the earthquake was roughly 5km deep.
