FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, took to social media to use Halloween to warn Americans to prepare for emergency or disaster. On X, they wrote, “This Halloween, keep the scares limited to costumes & movies. Preparing ahead can guarantee a frightfully fun night! Create an emergency plan, choose a place to meet if you get separated, & download the FEMA app to receive alerts.”

“When the leaves change colors, temperatures drop and the Halloween decorations come out, we know fall is here. But seasonal changes can bring hazards that are far more frightening than ghosts and goblins. Throughout the fall, hurricanes, wildfires, flooding and severe storms affect communities across the country,” FEMA wrote on their website.

The US Government is one of many around the world urging their residents to be prepared for emergencies or disasters. In the United Kingdom, authorities there updated their “Be Ready Campaign”, advising households to maintain at least 72 hours or 3 days worth of essential supplies including non-perishable food and water In France, local and regional authorities have used social media to urge people to prepare, sharing “Don’t wait for the emergency: prepare now!” In Japan, authorities have urged residents to stock 3 days to a week’s worth of emergency rations. In Germany, authorities are encouraging their residents to have up to 10 days worth of supplies on them in case something should happen. The European Union is also urging residents of Europe to follow the advice of the “European Preparedness Union Strategy”, recommending that member states urge citizens to be self-sufficient for a minimum of 72 hours.

Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino used his podcast broadcast this week to earn listeners to take action and stock up on essentials like food and water. He warns people to have 30 days worth of supplies should an emergency unfold.

“The Pentagon is preparing every major US military base to survive 90 days without outside support: without civilian power, no global supply chains, and no outside fuel or water,” Bongino said. “That’s good. The Pentagon’s doing its job to keep our national security safe and make Fortress America. You have to make Fortress My House, Fortress My Apartment. Please, do it for everyone. Your neighbors are not going to have any extra food. They’re going to be taking care of their kids.”
