The first month of the 2019 Hurricane Season will be ending on a quiet note, with no hurricanes forming in either the Central Pacific or Atlantic hurricane basins nor any forecast to form in the days remaining in June. Hurricane Season in these basins begins on June 1 and lasts through to the end of November.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s latest Tropical Outlook issued moments ago, no tropical cyclone formation is expected at all over the next 5 days. The American GFS computer forecast model also suggests no tropical cyclone formation through at least the first full week of July.

Dr. Phillip Klotzbach, a leading hurricane expert based at Colorado State University, also remarked on the lack of storms. According to Klotzbach, the globe has had only 1 named storm formation since May 20; only twice in the satellite era (since 1966) has the globe had <=1 named storm formation between May 21 – June 24: 1969 and 1975. The Atlantic has had zero named storms since the start of hurricane season; since start of satellite era (1966), 25 out of 53 years (47%) have had no Atlantic named storm activity in June.
