Heavy rain is making a return to the eastern US this week, and some heavy amounts may create flooding issues for many states. Portions of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania could see over 4″ of rain over the next 72 hours, with the heaviest rain arriving late Thursday into Friday.  This is the same area that has seen heavy rain in recent weeks and additional rain in the coming days could lead to flooding issues there.

A band of heavier rainfall will move from west to east across the northern Plains, Midwest, Ohio Valley and the mid-Atlantic as a low pressure wave along a cold front sweeps across the region. There could be some strong or severe thunderstorms in this region too; any convective activity would enhance heavier rainfall rates.

High pressure will return on Saturday, helping dry conditions out by the PM hours then.
