After being reported missing early Monday morning, local police have announced they have found the body of meteorologist Tom Johnston. Johnston died of an apparent suicide, police said.
Johnston, 46, was meteorologist for News Center WCSH 6 in Portland, Maine for the last three years, providing weather coverage for his community on their 5:30p, 6p, and 11p weekday newscasts.
Johnston was reported missing by girlfriend Monday morning. Johnston has traveled to the Sunday River Sky Resort on Sunday to emcee the Springfest event there. Later that night he was out with friends and family and told family members he was heading back home Sunday. When he didn’t show-up Monday morning, the missing persons report was filed.
In a brief statement late Thursday night, Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen said, “Any suspicion of foul play has been ruled out and the investigation is focused on an apparent suicide.”
