Super tiny Hurricane Oscar continues to spin about and appears to be on a collision course with Cuba. Various governments have issued Hurricane Warnings and Watches and Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings for portions of their islands in this part of the Atlantic Hurricane Basin.
Right now, a Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Turks and Caicos Islands, the southeastern Bahamas, the north coast of the Cuban provinces of Holguin and Guantanamo to Punta Maisi. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the north coast of the Cuban province of Las Tunas. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the south coast of Cuban province of Guantanamo and the north coast of the Cuban province of Las Tunas. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Cuban province of Camaguey.
Oscar is a remarkably tiny hurricane. Hurricane-force winds extend outward only up to 5 miles from the center while tropical storm force winds only extend outward to 45 miles. In comparison, Hurricane Helene had hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from its center while tropical storm force winds extended to 345 miles.
On the official forecast track from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Oscar is forecast to strike northern Cuba and then turn north and east away from the island nation, heading through the southern Bahamas. It is too soon to tell whether or not Oscar will threaten Bermuda.
