Detroit meteorologist Jessica Starr, 35, took her life last night, shocking the meteorology community around the nation and her peers and viewers in Detroit. Starr was a meteorologist for FOX 2. Co-worker Deena Centofanti Tweeted, “We thought she had it all. Healthy kids, funny husband, great job, family, friends, so why would Jessica Starr end her life? We probably won’t ever know but she teaches us a terrifying truth, everyone is at risk of suicide. Like many, she hid her pain well, if only we had known.” Fox 2’s Erika Erickson also took to Twitter to describe her shock. “The words shock and heartbreak don’t come close. She was smart, hilarious, bubbly and beautiful -inside and out. Please pray for her family and also her Fox 2 News family”, Erickson said.

Starr recently had Lasik surgery and was recovering at home from that surgery. On November 14, she Tweeted, “Update: yesterday was a struggle for me. I really wanted to come back but I need more time to recover. Please keep me in your thoughts during this challenging time.”

Starr worked for the Detroit-based Fox affiliate since 2012.

People dealing with depression and/or thoughts of suicide are encouraged to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255 or text 741-741 or visit www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
